Some backyards just need a plan. Not more grass to mow, not another deck - just a well-thought-out space where people can actually hang out. That's exactly what we put together for this Conway, NH property.
The centerpiece is a stone fire pit surrounded by a defined circular seating area with Adirondack chairs set up and ready to go. It's the kind of setup where you sit down after dinner and somehow two hours pass. We kept the gathering area grounded with a clean gravel surface and a white stone border ring that gives the whole fire pit zone its own identity within the larger yard.
Beyond the fire pit, the open gravel area gives plenty of room for yard games - a cornhole setup is right at home here. That's something people don't always think about when planning outdoor spaces. You want flexibility. You want kids and adults to both have something to do. Getting that balance right from the start means you're not scrambling to figure it out later.
The landscaping beds wrapping the perimeter tie it all together. Natural boulders, fresh mulch, low-maintenance shrubs, and a curved bed line that follows the natural shape of the yard - it softens the whole space without making it high-maintenance. No lawn to fight with, no overgrown edges to deal with. Just a clean, usable outdoor living space that works.
We went back to check on this one and it's holding up exactly how it should. Spaces like this don't just look good on day one - they're built to get used hard and still look sharp season after season.
